Jewellery:

Always treat your jewellery with care and protect it by keeping it in a jewellery box or its Mali pouch, particularly when travelling. Metal will scratch if it rubs against other metal items so please store correctly to ensure longevity. Check clasps and adjust the tightness of the earring ‘butterflies’ from time to time to make sure they are secure.

Cleaning silver and gold plate is done best by using a silver polishing cloth or silver dip cleaner. Warm soapy water can be used with a soft brush to remove dirt from your jewellery. Gold can also be cleaned using these methods but take care to follow instructions provide on cleaning products and take particular care with all stones and pearls as some should not come into contact with these cleaners at all.

It is best not to shower or to swim in chlorinated water when wearing jewellery and avoid contact with perfumes and other chemical products.

Gold plate will wear over time as it is a fine layer of gold over silver. Our smaller items cannot be coated with a very thick layer due to their size but Mali uses the best for the individual product and therefore will last much longer than cheaper-quality plating. Some items can be revived by having them re-plated by a reputable jeweller.

Certain finishes on our jewellery, particularly rings, will show some wear and over a period of time a brushed finish, for example, will become more smooth and polished.

Jewellery Boxes:

Our stylish boxes are made of a high-grade, soft ‘suedette’ fabric. Wipe clean with a damp cloth only or gently brush dust and dirt from the surface.

Mokume Gane:

Mali Sydney's Mokume Gane pieces have a matt rather than polished surface as it produces the best contrast with any combination of metals. Over time the surface of the ring will change its appearance through normal wear and will display a unique patina dependant upon the way the item is treated and worn. The matt finish can be maintained by using a fine, softened scouring pad with a liquid soap or toothpaste. Keep the cloth well lubricated whilst gently stroking it along the surface of the ring in one direction only. This procedure will probably only need to be done once every 2 years.
